Brighton’s “20-legged groove machine (Kerrang! magazine)” The Meow Meows will release a triple-A sided single through iTunes and Spotify in July:

A - I’m On Fire - sexy, salacious, salsa-infused dubby ska
AA - Beep! Beep! Omelette - 2-Tone flavoured summer classic with shout-along chorus
AAA - Badman - growling garage punk/sixties soul

This will complement the strictly limited-edition 7” available now on the band’s own Killer Ska label.

The Meow Meows’ debut album Songs From The Fridge sent little shudders of delight through a few hundred souls in the know about the underground ska scene. Since then, they have won a whole heap of new fans on a nationwide jaunt with Mouthwash and The King Blues, and have been overjoyed to play with many of their heroes, including The Beat, Bad Manners, The Selecter, and assorted members of The Specials.

The band’s sound is a fresh and happy muddle of sixties garage and dirty pop with a belly-rumbling rocksteady rhythm, blistering hot horns and heartthumping keyboards, topped off by two all-dancing, all-harmonising female singers armed with tongue-in-cheek lyrics and killer stage presence.

It’s no surprise, then, that they have a steadily-growing devoted and diverse following. With such a broad range of influences, their potent musical mix is enough to shake the tailfeather of anyone from die-hard original mods to skate-punk greenhorns. This all-inclusive appeal was proved by their recent triumphant showing in XYZ magazine’s Favourite Brighton Band poll, winning more votes than 99 local contemporaries and finishing second only to The Levellers.

Still staunchly independent, entirely self-managed and self-financed, The Meow Meows are looking forward to plentiful summer festival appearances, a tour of the Czech Republic, and more general merriment throughout 2011.
